If we had to sum up the taste of holiday, think we’d go with the Chai Latte – spicy, slightly sweet, and velvety smooth. It doesn’t get more festive than that.
There’s only one thing that’s missing with a Chai Latte though - that extra kick of caffeine. And if you’re like us, that blessed ingredient is pretty much a necessity around this time of year.
So, we decided to add a dollop of espresso to the drink. The result? Sheer holiday magic.
Here’s our recipe:
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
2 tbsp. Chai tea
1% or 2% milk (enough to fill cup almost ¾ of the way)
4-8 espresso shots
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. maple syrup
1 pinch of cinnamon
MIX IT UP
Using a small saucepan, bring the milk to a low simmer. Once your milk has heated, add vanilla, maple syrup, and cinnamon, whisking constantly. When milk is simmering place the chai tea (in steeper or tea bag) in the mixture.
ADD THE EXTRA KICK
While the milk is simmering, now it's time to make the espresso. If you don't have an espresso maker, you can use a French Press or regular coffee maker - just be sure your espresso beans are ground finely. Once your espresso is ready, add 1-2 shots to the bottom of your tumbler or mug.
FROTH IT UP
Once your milk is heated up, froth the milk using a milk frother or handheld emersion blender. From there, you can pour it over the espresso. For a foamy look, be sure to pour it slowly and at an angle.
For a little something extra, sprinkle a bit of cinnamon and crushed espresso beans on top.
And there you go! Now, just kick back and savor the season.
