Handwoven in India by
Thanks to its eco-friendly fiber made up of recycled plastic bottles, this handwoven area rug makes the ideal foundation for your space. Durable and stain-resistant, style this beauty indoors or outdoors – it’s versatile like that. Bonus: with its low-pile, super-soft weave, you’ll have another excuse to go barefoot.
From creating the recycled yarn to weaving the rug, it takes about 6 weeks to make each piece. All made start-to-finish in a fair trade workshop in Bhadohi, India.
We recommend using a rug pad to reduce wrinkles and slippage.

I bought this rug to place under my dining table. Pros - (1) surprisingly soft underfoot, which I wasn’t expecting, but I’ve never owned a PET rug before. (2) The color is great; a nice neutral that leans cream/pale rose. (3) The tight weave works well for a dining space because it vacuums well without snags and thread pulls. Cons - it’s pricey for a 6x9 non-wool rug but I appreciate the fact that the company promotes fair trade and the artisans make living wages (at least that is what is promoted). I’m willing to support that mission with my business.

I, too, love the quality of this rug but the “clay” color is nowhere near neutral. There’s a strong mauve/purple tone throughout. I emailed the citizenry ahead of time about the color and the rep described it as a warm straw beige... not even close! It’s mauve. I think this color would suit many people’s tastes, but it would be much better to represent it accurately on the site!
Hi Annie, Thank you for sharing your thoughts here ~ we're so sorry this wasn't the perfect fit! We're also so sorry for the unexpected color variation. Because each piece is handcrafted, we do experience slight variations from one piece to the next and I apologize if our description misled you! Please don't hesitate to reach out if we can help in any way - our CX team can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need us! Best, -The Citizenry Team
Online this rug looks like a very light pink but in person it’s more tan/brownish purple. It’s a beautiful rug, very soft. You would never know it’s made from recycled bottles. I had to return it however because the color didn’t fit my decor.
EXTREMELY happy with our new rug! It is the perfect size, color and shape. It added the final touch that was missing in our living room. Unbelievable that it is made of recycled bottles because it is very soft!! Amazing color, too! Very satisfied customer :)
