San Gil Accent Rug
The beauty of this hand braided accent rug starts with the material itself. Traditionally used to make bags for coffee or cocoa beans, fique is a natural fiber known for its durability and strength. Native to Colombia, this incredibly sustainable plant also requires very little water and is biodegradable.
Once the fique fiber is spun into ropes, master weavers then braid these intricate rug designs. The end result? A natural accent rug that’s so stunning, you’ll want one in every room.
Masterfully braided by hand in the mountains of Colombia, each rug takes 10 days to complete. All made start-to-finish in a fair trade environment.
We recommend using a rug pad to reduce slippage.

I ordered (2) of the runner style of this rug to cover a long hallway - I am so impressed by the quality, feel, and deep color. Highly recommend!
We purchased three of the rose colored runners and one of them came with dirty spots all over it. The color variation is very noticeable. The other two rugs were in perfect condition. We have had these rugs in storage for the past year because of COVID so we no longer qualify for a return. Were just stuck with a damaged rug. Not sure if it is water/mildew damage or just bad dye!
Hi Frank, We’re so sorry to hear that this rug did not live up to your expectations. While, yes, color variations can occur due to the natural dyes used - moisture and exposure to the elements can also affect them. We’d love to prove our commitment to quality, so please feel free to reach out to our Client Experience team and they’ll provide you a little something to put towards a future order! Hopefully this beauty can find a spot in your home- as well as some of our other room-makers! Best, The Citizenry Team
We bought the San Gil runner in the beautiful blush color for our hallway. It's true to the pictures on the website. And comes beautifully braided from recycled (upcycled) Colombian coffee bags which we loved (as coffee lovers!). However, it was a bit too thick and felt a bit rough to us. The thickness also was an issue with our particular robot cleaner as it struggled to get on the rug :( We were afraid that some of the beautiful, thick fibers on the rug may get compromised if we used it to clean the rug. If you don't mind a slightly more rough feel to your rug and cleaning/brushing it yourself, I think it's perfect! We exchanged it for the Asha runner. Look forward to reviewing it after it arrives.
I purchased 2 runners and a small area rug for a dressing room Bathroom and bedroom and I am disappointed that they are not at all soft for bare feet. They are more rough like a doormat.
Leslie, Thank you so much for your feedback, although we’re so sorry to hear that the texture of the rugs wasn’t what you had expected. This particular style is hand-braided from a natural fiber known for its durability and, while softer than a traditional jute rug, is not as soft as a rug made from wool. We’re sorry for any confusion and will pass your note along to our Marketing and Design Teams to be more clear going forward. If there is anything else we can do, please reach out to us at email@example.com. We’re here to help! Sincerely, The Citizenry Team
The color and style are pretty, but it doesn't lay flat. One entire edge, especially on the corner, is folded up which caused my holiday guests to constantly trip over it (and me, still). I can't get it to lay flat even if I fold the corner under for a period of time. I don't recommend unless you are placing it in an area that doesn't have much foot traffic.
Christina, Thank you for your feedback — it means the world. We’re sorry to hear that this has been your experience with our San Gil rug. Have you tried ironing (on low) with a towel? That typically helps with pesky corners, as well as a rug pad to help the rug stay in place. Still, we’re sorry that your experience has been a less-than-perfect one. So please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if we can help in any way. Sincerely, The Citizenry Team
Gorgeous that perfectly accents the Keya runner.
