The Citizenry is looking for a Copywriter and Editorial Director with a passion and talent for writing compelling product stories across channels and platforms. All of our designs were inspired by different cultures and ethically crafted by master artisans in far off destinations; it’s your job to bring those stories to life. There is no place for a simple copy and paste here because each item is as unique as the people that developed it and materials that went into it. There is, however, a very important place for simple, well-told stories.

This is a critical creative role in our brand-driven organization. Beyond defining the voice of the brand, you will work directly with the Co-Founder and Director of Brand Marketing to develop big ideas that will propel the brand forward. You will also be responsible for drafting all copy for the site, emails, marketing channels, and social media (including owning Instagram – our most important channel).

Being a strategic thinker and writer is critical. You must know how to keep a core idea intact and writing multiple versions of it. This is a fast-moving business where a change in copy can have a massive ripple effect. You should have a baseline understanding of online marketing best practices including email campaigns, SEO, SEM and keyword targeting.


THE JOB

The ideal candidate has a background in retail, e-commerce and/or product copy. Bonus points for working with a leading, digitally-charged brand that’s paving the way in its respective industry. Here are just some of the things you’ll be charged with:

  • Overall goal: Create compelling content that aims to sell as well as celebrate the best craftsmanship from around the globe
  • Develop language style guide in accordance with The Citizenry’s brand values and mission
  • Work with marketing, e-commerce, and design teams to develop multi-channel assets (including email campaigns, social (organic and paid), direct mail, and packaging)

  • Work with brand leadership to develop broader campaign ideas and marketing initiatives
  • Assist product design team to uncover product stories not previously considered
  • Be the language guardian across external touchpoints and internal teams to make sure the copy most effectively reflects The Citizenry’s mission and its business goals
  • Roll up your sleeves and fill in gaps when needed (after all, we are a startup)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • 3-8 year’s experience writing copy for a brand-focused business across channels and platforms
  • Knowledge of SEO, SEM and online marketing strategies
  • Interest, passion and skill for keeping track of why, when and how language performs
  • A curiosity for finding potential stories across the many different facets of The Citizenry
  • Ability to communicate well both visually and verbally (PPT/Keynote skills a must)
  • Self-starter; comfortable with ownership and high level of responsibility
  • Thrives in a tight-knit community of colleagues bound by mission. You celebrate wins and appreciate everyone’s role in the process
