Let’s start at the beginning, with Mario’s grandmother Gerd Hay-Edie, the bold entrepreneur who set up this design studio back in 1954. One flip through her design sketches and swatches, and you’ll see why these textural tweeds became the go-to’s for famous designers, like Sybil Connolly and Robin Day.

Fast forward to today, and you’ll find Mario and his mother, Karen, in the very same studio, carrying on this rich legacy. Using some of Gerd’s original looms and equipment, they’ve been able to reinvent these iconic designs in a modern collection of tweed textiles.

As we walked through this workshop, we couldn’t help but sense the heritage in every part of the design process. Even with the expansion of the workshop and hiring of new weavers, Mario’s been able to keep everything as authentic as possible.
