Fair Trade. Guaranteed. 100% of our products are made with a process guaranteed by the World Fair Trade Organization.

Our rugs are handcrafted to last a lifetime, made using the highest quality natural fibers – no synthetic materials like viscose, rayon, or polyester are used.

Basic care:

Because each rug is handcrafted with only natural materials and hand-trimmed to the desired pile height, it is normal to see loose fibers or shedding in the first six months.

Vacuum lightly at least once a week using only low suction and no beater brush, as this may damage the rug. More frequent vacuuming will help prevent shedding.

Avoid placing rugs in prolonged direct sunlight as this can cause fading.

Rotate your rug every 3-6 months. This will help prevent excessive wear and fading in one area.

The use of a rug pad will keep your rug lying smooth and flat and will help prevent slippage.

Treating stains:

Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth - act quickly to prevent drying. Avoid harsh chemicals and household cleaners as they may damage or fade the rug. When in doubt, professional cleaning is always best.

Constantly sheds

Quality rug, but it does constantly shed. Not ideal if you have little ones still crawling around.

The Citizenry

Hi Brian, Thanks for sharing your feedback! Shedding is a common characteristic of wool rugs, especially when they have higher pile and are made out of natural materials. We understand that it can be concerning, especially if you have little ones crawling around. To minimize shedding, we recommend regular vacuuming and gentle brushing to remove any loose fibers. Over time, the shedding should gradually decrease as the rug settles in. If you continue to experience excessive shedding or have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Client Experience Team at assistant@the-citizenry.com. We're here to help! Best, The Citizenry Team
