Free U.S. Shipping & Easy Returns

Lightweight, incredibly soft, and quick to dry, say hello to your new can’t-live-without staples. Loomed with an oversized waffle construction, these waffle towels are more breathable and absorbent than your run-of-the-mill versions. Designed in five fresh hues and finished with a refined, flat-edge border, they’re as handsome as they are functional.

Each towel is made with long-staple Pima cotton and loomed in the oldest, family-run mill in Imabari that has spent 100 years perfecting the art of towel making. From weaving to dyeing and washing, each step is done in a fair-trade environment.

Note: Each set includes two towels – two face towels / washcloths, two hand towels, or two bath towels.

Made with higher standards. We preserve artisan craft by paying wages that average 2x the fair trade requirement.

These cotton towels can be machine washed on cold with like colors. Tumble dry on low. Do not bleach.

After washing, the waffle weave will deepen and shrink a bit, developing a more organic character over time. We recommend hanging on a rack instead of hooks – the hooks will stretch out the weave over time.

These towels are amazing. I went back and forth on whether to purchase them for the price but honestly the set of 6 makes sense and it is definitely worth it. The towels dry so quickly, are an extra large size, and are beautiful designed and constructed.

Beautiful towels. I ordered the set, and not disappointed to have so many of these lovely towels. They feel great, you can tell they are fantastic quality. Even my toddler loves them.

Damn fine towels

I went down a rabbit hole researching the best towels recently, and all signs pointed to these authentic Made in Japan waffle towels from the town of Imabari in Shikoku island. This is the "High Street" of towel-making in all of Japan, with storied craftsmanship and history. After a visit to Japan in 2019 including several onsens, I realized how serious they take their bathing culture, and what a key piece of equipment a humble towel plays in the experience. So far I'm very impressed with using these Citizenry waffle towels--they dry you off quickly and then dry themselves off quickly--this helps them avoid the common problem of other towels in developing musty smells caused by bacteria and being damp too long. As a result, I'm able to use the same towel for several weeks without feeling the need to replace or wash it--and not in like a gross college dorm way either, it just doesn't seem necessary. So the low-maintenance, together with the premium performance and pedigree make this towel a worthwhile investment and justify the higher price. I'm also starting to give these towels as housewarming gifts now, since it's a unique, niche item that's thoughtful and I stand behind.
