Coffee Table Styling Tips

Walk into any living room, and inevitably one of the first things you’ll notice is the coffee table. And since we all know that first impressions are everything, it’s important to get this styling right. You want a look that is put together, but not too staged; a look that warm and inviting, but still modern and sophisticated. Good news? We’ve got 3 simple steps for how to achieve this elusive “just something I threw together” coffee table look…

Step One

LAY YOUR FOUNDATION

Create some structure with a couple of large books and a wooden or statement stone tray. These anchor pieces will provide a base for styling tabletop accents – giving the whole look some symmetry and organization.

Step Two

ADD SOME PERSONALITY

Whether it be objects made of natural textures (think leather, wood, marble, etc.) or with bold patterns and shapes, bring in decorative pieces that will add some visual interest and depth. Bonus if you can find pieces that are also functional – go for baskets, catch-alls, or boxes to stash remotes, reading glasses, or other everyday essentials.

STEP THREE

LIKE YOU LIVE THERE

The most important tip when it comes to coffee table styling tips is to make it work for you. Always want to kick your feet up? Make sure you leave enough space to do so. Entertaining or many coffee mugs? If you know you bring drinks into the living room, ensure coasters aren't stashed away. Adding a dash of personality and keeping utility in mind will make your coffee table decor work for you.
