Innovation and integrity are the blueprint for this family-run workshop in Portugal. With each new piece, generations of artisans ask themselves how they can improve upon traditional designs, making it more beautiful, more sustainable, and more reflective of all the people who came before them. Drawing inspiration from the rich lifestyle and landscapes of Guimarães, this workshop feels a natural responsibility to create the most sustainable process possible, inventing new ways to reduce water usage, avoid harmful chemicals, and turn towards renewable energy sources.
Founded in 1958, this workshop has deep roots in the nearby village as well, employing local families with each new generation. Between the walls of this workshop, elder artists have worked side-by-side to pass along their craft to their children, preserving traditional craftsmanship through modern innovation. This dedication to local artists and their families has made this workshop a social and financial pillar of the local community.
Constantly experimenting with new materials, this workshop weaves beautiful designs with organic cotton, recycled fibers, and even viscose made from fruit. Crafted on a dobby loom, each piece is characterized by a unique texture, ranging from small geometric patterns to distinct stripes. It’s this technique that allows the workshop to explore a never-ending range of new possibilities. And that’s just the way they like it.
