Lalita Hand-Knotted Area Rug
Inspired by the artful curves and lines of rock gardens, this area rug is designed to bring a sense of calm wherever it lands. Luxuriously soft and extra plush, this rug practically begs you to kick off your shoes and make yourself at home.
Each rug is knotted by hand and made using the finest New Zealand wool. All made start-to-finish in a fair trade workshop in Bhadohi, India.

NOTE: This rug is a high-pile rug, with a 1" pile height. Be sure to measure for door clearance. Returns of rugs not delivered via white-glove will incur a $65 refund fee, due to the size of the item. Returns for store credit are always free, except for rugs delivered via white glove which will have a restocking fee of 15% applied.

Our rugs are handcrafted to last a lifetime, made using the highest quality natural fibers – no synthetic materials like viscose, rayon, or polyester are used.
Basic care:
Because each rug is handcrafted with only natural materials and hand-trimmed to the desired pile height, it is normal to see loose fibers or shedding in the first six months.
Vacuum lightly at least once a week using only low suction and no beater brush, as this may damage the rug. More frequent vacuuming will help prevent shedding.
Avoid placing rugs in prolonged direct sunlight as this can cause fading.
Rotate your rug every 3-6 months. This will help prevent excessive wear and fading in one area.
The use of a rug pad will keep your rug lying smooth and flat and will help prevent slippage.
Treating stains:
Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth - act quickly to prevent drying. Avoid harsh chemicals and household cleaners as they may damage or fade the rug. When in doubt, professional cleaning is always best.

$25 for most other returned orders
$65 if your return includes oversized items (area rugs, furniture, mirrors)

I’ve been dealing with this rug for one week now since delivery. We were so excited to FINALLY get the rug but it came really damaged and with a horrible smell. Who folds a $4k rug? I’ve just spent the last one hour trying to remove creases using an iron and a towel as directed by the Citizenry support. No difference. Considering a return after a very disappointing product.

The Citizenry's Lalita area rug is beautiful, soft, and comfortable. The color is more cream than ecru - blends well with most room colors. Ridges are not quite as easy on bare feet as a solid pile, but the appealing swirl pattern makes the somewhat uneven surface worth it. The size turned out to be too big for my bedroom. Tried the living room. Fits perfectly, looks great. Good to know that The Citizenry sources its rugs responsibly.
