Palermo Butterfly Chair
Dreamed up in 1938 by Argentine architects, the butterfly chair is an icon of modern design. Meticulously handcrafted from 100% vegetable-tanned saddle leather or ethically-sourced cowhide, this heirloom-quality piece ages beautifully – much like a fine wine.
We partnered with a small leather workshop in Buenos Aires to bring this timeless design back to life. To create these chairs, they use only the highest quality materials. Each one takes three days to complete, all made under fair trade standards.
NOTE: Due to the size of this item, returns for a refund require a $65 total fee. Returns for store credit are always free.

Great chair, soft leather. The feedback on installation is true - a bit of puzzle-piecing. But once assembled it looks great and is a sturdy chair
The various components/legs were mislabeled and I was about to send it back. Out of desperation, I laid out the pieces and labeled them according to the diagram. Once I did that the chair went together fairly quickly. Double check the labels and save yourself major frustration.
Hi James, Thank you so much for your feedback - we are sorry to hear that the assembly process was not as easy as it should have been. That certainly isn’t the experience we want for you, and we’ll be updating the instructions and labels to ensure a more a seamless setup. Again, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We look forward to proving our artisan partners’ quality and craftsmanship to you in the future. Sincerely, The Citizenry Team
Nice materials, difficult to assemble, angle of the chair makes it very uncomfortable - you are tilted back with not head or neck support.
Hi Erin, Thank you so much for your feedback - we are sorry to hear that the assembly process was not as easy as it should have been and that the comfort level was not what you expected. That certainly isn’t the experience we want for you. We’ve passed your note along to our Production Team on the assembly issue to work on improving this experience in the future. We spoke with our Client Experience Team and are happy to hear they were able help process a return for you. But in the meantime, if there is anything else we can do at all, please do not hesitate to reach out. We look forward to proving our artisan partners’ quality and craftsmanship to you in the future. Sincerely, The Citizenry Team
I can't believe I just paid $700 for a chair that has the worst assembly instructions I've ever seen! No parts are labelled and the diagram on the product page is not helpful at all. I'm just guessing what goes where, but after an hour, I GIVE UP. I am beyond frustrated!!
Hi Kathleen, We're so sorry to hear about your frustrating experience! We know your time is valuable, and we can't apologize enough for taking up so much of it with assembly attempts. Since we know this chair is a tricky one to put together, each item is labeled and packaged with step-by-step assembly instructions. It sounds like that was not the case, so we have followed up with our teams to triple check this is included going forward. As a gift for your troubles, we will be sending a little gift to your inbox – it's the least we can do. Again, thank you for taking the time to send us feedback! Sincerely, The Citizenry Team
It has been very frustrating.
Hi Sally, Thank you for your feedback here! We're so sorry to see that you are having issues with assembling this beauty. There are assembly instructions on the product page if you're in need of those. We'll be sure someone from the team has reached out to check in and see if there's any way we can help. Best, -The Citizenry Team
Chair is fabulous, little hard to understand how to put it together but once you get it it great! Cozy!
