The Buenos Aires Guide image

Every so often the heart craves nothing more than to wander the streets, savor the unfamiliar, and get a little lost. On our last visit to Buenos Aires, we spent a perfect Saturday doing just that. With no map, no phone GPS, and most importantly – no agenda, we roved through the sprawling city.

Many people told us Buenos Aires is the “Paris of the South,” and it certainly has the appropriate flair and sophistication to live up to that claim. It’s also very European in that lots-of-beautiful-people-idling-away-sipping-espressos-at-cafes kind of way, but the REAL magic of the city lies in the Latin passion that pulses through its veins. The Argentine “all-or-nothing” approach to food, life, love, and art is infectious – it just has a way of pulling you in.

We found a hidden market nestled behind century-old buildings. We bought antique seltzer bottles from men dressed in drag. We met and talked with street artists for hours, letting the conversation carry us from cafe to cafe and into the evening. Finally, we finished the adventure with a perfectly cooked steak dinner and washed the day down with copious amounts of Malbec. So grateful we had one full day (with no real work on the agenda) to drink up the city, quite literally. Until next time…
