9:00 AM – FIRST THINGS FIRST. COFFEE.
Start off just outside of the city in the Coyoacán district, a colorful little artist community known for its tree-lined cobblestone streets and colonial architecture. Be sure to stop by Café Negro for a caffeine boost – this quaint little coffee shop will get your day off on the right foot.
10:00 AM – SOME CULTURE.
Just down the street is Casa Azul, the house where the famed artist, Frida Khalo, grew up. You can’t miss the stunning cobalt-blue walls that surround the interior garden. Here, you can see work-in-progress paintings and walk through rooms just as she and Diego Rivera left them.
12:00 PM – TIME FOR SOME LUNCH.
Take a stroll through the Polanco neighborhood. You can get lost for hours just walking around this area, taking in all the parks, shopping, and restaurants. Stop in at Malamén for a quick bite – a whimsical restaurant with a bit of Parisian flair.
2:00 PM – AFTERNOON INSPIRATION.
Next up, head across the Chapultapec Park to the Luis Barragan House for a taste of modern design at its finest. Be sure to book a tour in advance – definitely helps to have someone walk you through the home of this mid-century architect.
4:00 PM – A LITTLE PICK-ME-UP.
For a quick snack, check out Mercado Roma, right in the heart of the Roma neighborhood on Queretaro Street. This upscale market is packed with delicious treats – the different counters feature all types of food, from tapas and tacos to cervezas and churros.
5:00 PM – FINALLY. IT'S FIVE O'CLOCK.
For a drink with a view, check out the bar at Romita Comedor. Don’t know if it was the two-story greenhouse window or the tasty margaritas, but whatever it was, this place definitely had us hooked.
8:00 PM – TIME TO EAT. AGAIN.
Wrap up with dinner at Azul Histórico below the Downtown Hotel. This courtyard restaurant is pretty amazing – lanterns hang from trees interspersed between tables, creating a romantic, other-worldly vibe. Not to mention, the food is delicious.
10:00 PM – NIGHT CAP.
And after dinner, head to the rooftop bar upstairs. Order a mezcal margarita and take in the view of the Historic District from above. And best part about it – just walk downstairs to your hotel room once you're ready to turn in.
