One of our favorite things about summer is waking up early(ish) on a Saturday and heading out to the farmer’s market. We could spend hours just strolling through the aisles of fresh fruits and veggies. The colors, the smells, the sounds – there’s inspiration at every stand.
On our last farmer’s market adventure, we came across a batch of fresh Thai basil and lemongrass. At the peak of their season, these Asian herbs are extra flavorful in the summer; the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, they are practically begging to be used in a summertime cocktail.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
1 handful of fresh Thai basil
1 stalk of lemongrass
1/5 ounce of rum
1/2 grapefruit, juiced
3 ounces of water
3 tablespoons of brown sugar
A dash of bitters (We opted for Temperance Bitters.)
FRESHLY SQUEEZED
For the freshest taste, juice your grapefruit with a citrus reamer. This will help bring out the rich flavor of the fruit.
SHAKE IT UP
Combine the grapefruit juice with the water, rum, bitters and brown sugar in a cocktail shaker. Then, simply shake it up until mixed together!
FINISHING TOUCHES
Add torn basil to a glass with ice. Pour over the top and garnish with a lemongrass stalk for an extra touch!
ENJOY!
